Indeed, there are occasional side effects that affect me (such as nausea, dizziness, and overeating), but this medication has been a game-changer for me. I was on Ritalin for several years (Provigil didn’t have the desired effect), struggling to stay awake. Then, Xyrem was prescribed to me. Now, I get the necessary sleep at night, which allows me to wake up rejuvenated and ready to face the day! Instead of relying on a stimulant, I now just have a good night’s sleep and feel normal. The challenge I face now is finding a doctor who is familiar with the medication, especially after moving to a new location. My most recent doctor had to register to prescribe it while I was in their office, and they don’t seem to know much about it. This is fine, except when considering major life decisions like having children, I would prefer not to be the most knowledgeable person in the room. If your doctor is comfortable prescribing it, I would suggest trying it, even if you can’t envision your life without your current stimulant medications. You might be pleasantly surprised!
