Just under a year after having both eyes lasered to restore normal vision without visual aid, I was prescribed ramipril. Shortly after taking ramipril, my visual acuity deteriorated. Now, almost 3 months later, the reason for this has been identified. It was the intake of ramipril.
I have only been taking ramipril for 5 days. There were some side effects that are unacceptable to me.The medication worked for me immediately and I quickly had good blood pressure. But for the last 2 days my body has gone completely crazy. I could peel my skin off, it itches and burns so much. No rash.
I keep waking up at night because I have breathing problems, which I didn’t have before.
My blood pressure drops to critical levels at night. Thank goodness I wake up and have to move.
I will have to change. I’m not going to take tablets for side effects.
At first I tolerated ramipril quite well. Gradually, I no longer recognised myself. Anxiety and terrible inner restlessness, trembling, constant urge to urinate, dizziness, headaches, shortness of breath and coughing.
I have now stopped taking it and hope that I will become “normal” again. That was no life 🙁
I would like to share my own experience with ramipril. I was prescribed ramipril 2.5 mg 4 weeks ago due to high blood pressure. I was supposed to take 1 of these in the morning and 1 in the evening, but as I am careful with medication, I only took 1.25 mg at a time. This was followed by muscle cramps, insomnia and malaise. However, I continued to take it as I take high blood pressure seriously and hoped that it would get better. It didn’t get much better but I thought that the dose prescribed by the doctor was probably the right one and increased the dose to 2.5 mg in the morning and 1.25 mg in the evening. So after about 4 days my personal nightmare began, high blood pressure, palpitations, anxiety, panic attacks and a hypertensive derailment with values I don’t want to mention here. Yesterday, my GP sent me straight to the emergency room. ECG was fine, blood values great, X-ray of the upper body without findings. I then did some research on the internet and came across various forums etc. which confirmed that it was probably due to the ramipril. I will only take 1.25 mg again for the next few days and have an appointment for a 24-hour blood pressure measurement on Tuesday. I am 1000% sure that my condition is related to ramipril.
A chesty cough and runny nose appeared shortly after starting to take the medicine. My dreams have gradually changed. I dream more intensely, without limits in the sense of being creative and inventive, experiencing real adventures from which I often don’t even want to wake up. As a result, I sleep longer, up to 12 hours. During the day, however, I am often tired and lacking in energy. No nightmares.
I find the change in dreams to be the strongest side effect of Ramipril.
Prescribed 2.5mg “a child’s dose that you won’t notice” Ramipril by the doctor due to increased BP.
The first week of dizziness, feeling “cotton wool”. That’s fine, at least they want to take blood pressure seriously and the values did indeed go down.
What remained were sleep disorders, which greatly reduced quality of life. Waking up several times a night, strong dream frequency, feeling of no longer having deep sleep.
I will talk to the doctor and stop taking it, as it is taking away my quality of life. Desperate, as the doctor has already waved me through trying other remedies, which of course all come with side effects. No idea what the research is doing, it all seems frustrating
Increases blood pressure dangerously within a very short time. In my case it went from 148/98 to 178/118 within 4 days. Causes unbearable muscle pain, which turns every little movement into torture. Sleeping is impossible with this medication, hence severe concentration problems. Compared to the other side effects, the abdominal pain and explosive diarrhea are negligible.
At least the muscle pain subsides quickly after stopping the medication. I have now been on a different medication for 2 days and can almost move normally again.
