This was the third time I underwent a colonoscopy, but it was the first instance where I was administered propofol. The insertion of the IV caused me no discomfort, and I quickly fell asleep. After spending roughly an hour in the recovery area, I was ready to leave the hospital. Contrary to my past experiences with colonoscopies, where I needed to rest at home afterwards, this time I felt completely normal and wide awake post-procedure. However, there’s a downside to share. Upon regaining consciousness, I remembered a pulling feeling in my stomach, the sound of people talking, and a brief awareness during the procedure. Thankfully, there was no pain involved. Overall, I’d rate the medication a solid nine out of ten. Should I need propofol again, I plan to discuss this particular experience with the anesthesiologist.
