Methylphenidate helped me to focus better, but the side effects were unbearable for me. Severe headaches and palpitations meant that I eventually had to stop taking it.
My son has been taking Ritalin for two years and we have noticed a significant improvement in his behavior and academic performance. He is calmer, more focused and keeps up much better in class. Of course there was an adjustment period where we had to find the right dosage, but since then we have not noticed any serious problems. As parents, we are very grateful for the positive change and can only recommend anyone in a similar situation to seek advice.
As a student with ADHD, methylphenidate has helped me revolutionise my exam preparation. My focus and ability to study for long periods of time have improved dramatically. However, the side effects should not be underestimated: I experience increased anxiety and sometimes insomnia, especially during stressful times. It’s a constant balancing act between the benefits for my studies and dealing with the side effects.
Side effects:
Dry mouth, palpitations/increased pulse, loss of appetite, ice-cold hands + feet and excessive sweating at the same time, frequent headaches, rebound/big low after wearing off, increased pressure to smoke
The effect was there, productivity and drive increased as well as more organised thoughts and more concentration, but unfortunately clearly too weak in direct connection with the side effects
Unfortunately first choice drug, so only switched to Elvanse later; only heard positive things about Elvanse compared to medikinet beforehand and can now confirm this
Methylphenidate works, but it’s not a miracle cure. It helps me get through the day, but I also had to adjust my lifestyle to get the best results.
In itself a great remedy. Unfortunately, I have to give up Medikinet because I’m suffering from a few side effects and this has unfortunately put me in hospital. Unfortunately, I can’t just start it, otherwise I’ll sleep the whole day away because I’m just so incredibly tired. The headaches, on the other hand, are not so bad. Unfortunately, it’s stupid because I have children and can’t sleep all day. So I decided not to just stop taking it, but to slowly phase it out!
Headaches, not a day without headache tablets. Dizziness, extreme dry mouth, tiredness. Concentration is better, but the drive and chaos in my head has not changed. In addition, a strong feeling of heat in the face with facial flushing, like a fever…I also notice exactly when the effect wears off, at first totally exhausted, tired and later chaotic thoughts again
My grandson, who is 10 years old, is experiencing pain in his legs and back, along with symptoms of depression. He often cries and is unable to explain why he feels this way. He also complains of stomach pain. He has been on this medication for a year. We had stopped the medication for about a month, during which his teachers noticed a significant change in his ability to concentrate. However, after resuming the medication, the side effects have returned.
Everything has become more manageable for me. I can concentrate and complete all tasks. I haven’t experienced any side effects. In fact, I’m now getting the best sleep I’ve ever had.
I’m dealing with a serious case of obstructive sleep apnea and extreme hypersomnia. For the past 8 years, I’ve been managing these conditions with Ritalin. However, after a recent accident which led to a pause in my work, I chose to discontinue the use of Ritalin. Interestingly, I didn’t experience any withdrawal symptoms, but the severe hypersomnia returned. I found myself falling asleep multiple times a day without my CPAP and started having headaches due to low oxygen levels. As a registered nurse, I’d rather not rely on medication, but life without Ritalin has proven to be challenging.
