I have been taking methadone for nearly 2 months as part of a substitution programme and now clearly notice that my knee joints are extremely painful under stress

I am battling both bone and breast cancer, and the pain is beyond words. My only previous experiences with pain medication were Tylenol and Advil, so my doctors initially prescribed Norco. However, it was ineffective, leading them to progressively increase my dosage until I was taking a significant amount of Dilaudid. I felt as though I was losing my sense of self, which led my doctor to suggest Methadone. I must confess that I was initially ignorant, associating Methadone primarily with drug addiction treatment. After consulting with my doctor, discussing with my family, and conducting online research, I decided to trust my doctor’s advice and try it. The results have been surprisingly positive. It doesn’t make me feel intoxicated or disoriented; instead, it allows me to feel like myself. It alleviates about 90% of the pain, which anyone suffering from severe pain would agree is remarkable. I occasionally take Dilaudid if necessary, but those instances are rare. I appreciate not having to retreat to my bed due to feeling disoriented. The small amount of life I have between treatments feels like my own again, as it should be. I even have increased confidence in managing both cancers, largely because I can control most of the pain.
