As I was diagnosed with glucose tolerance in August, I was prescribed metformin by my diabetologist. The goal was 6-8 weeks at 1-0-1 with 1000mg each time.
I started the first two weeks with 500 mg in the evening. I have already taken a lot of medication, including various antidepressants, but what the metformin did to my body, especially in the first week, was really hell. The worst thing was that after 4 days I was in the emergency room because I thought my appendix wanted to come out.
After a week the symptoms became bearable, i.e. the diarrhea stopped and I was able to go outside again. (What remained, however, was permanent dizziness + circulatory problems, nausea etc.)
After 4 weeks I went up to 500-0-1000 and yes, it was like the first week.
After 6 weeks, including a sugar shock while driving, I stopped taking the medication.
It was actually very good at bringing my BG down in the morning.
But with the side effects, never again.
Severe diarrhea dizziness nausea since 5 months unexplained muscle pain from the ankles to the knee also pain in the hip joint because I start to limp due to the pain in the ankles. Oral lichen
I have been taking metformin for 4 months now because of my type 2 diabetes. My blood sugar levels have improved significantly. At first I struggled a bit with nausea, but that has subsided. I am satisfied!
When I was diagnosed with PCOS six months ago, my doctor prescribed me metformin. At first I was sceptical as to whether a diabetes medication could really help with my symptoms. But I have to say that my menstrual cycles have normalised and I feel much better overall. The first few weeks were tough because of the gastrointestinal side effects, but that has subsided over time. I am really grateful for how metformin has helped me and hope that we can fulfil our dream of having children soon.
So, I know that Metformin is a miracle cure for many, but for me? Not so much. I took it for a few months and had to stop because of constant stomach problems. My blood sugar didn’t drop as much as I had hoped either. Maybe it’s just not right for everyone.
Metformin has changed my life forever! Since taking it, my blood sugar levels have been more stable than ever before. As an added bonus, I’ve even lost a little weight. Of course, I had to struggle with some side effects at first, but my body adapted quickly. I would like to encourage anyone who is still at the beginning of their Metformin journey: This medication really can make a big difference!
I’ve been on Metformin for a year now and wanted to share my experience. The effectiveness in lowering my blood sugar levels is undeniable, but I also had to change my diet and exercise regularly to experience the full benefits. The side effects were challenging at first, but have lessened over time. It’s not a cure-all, but combined with a healthy lifestyle, it has helped me manage my diabetes better.
I was initially instructed to take the medication three times daily, but this regimen resulted in severe diarrhea. Consequently, I reduced the dosage to twice daily, which resolved the issue. I’ve been informed by some that the medication remains effective for approximately a year, but its efficacy diminishes thereafter.
