Hello…. as it has helped me to read up here, I will also share my experiences.

I was given 2 injections of dexmethasone, intramuscularly, the medication is called Rheumesser and is given for osteoarthritis pain.

    Result: hell!!!!!!!!
Headache of death, visual disturbances, dizziness, balance problems, bad stomach, could hardly eat anything, I was terrified of eating, rapid weight loss, weak, faint, despondent, completely restless and agitated, slept only 3-4 hours a night, was completely exhausted and unable to act. Absolute horror at the time.

Just like others here, the doctor sent me straight to the hospital emergency room on Saturday (2 days after the second injection), she said that in rare cases the dexmethasone can also trigger a brain haemorrhage.
Skull CT was then ok, so I went home again and hoped that the conditions would go away soon.

    They didn’t.

It took no less than 6 weeks!!! It was a horrible time, I just wanted to die. I waited with the experience report until ‘it’ was halfway ok again, which is now largely good again after 9 weeks, only the dullness and weakness is still there, I still have to think carefully about every activity.

So please……….. think carefully about whether dexmethasone, which is 30 times stronger than prednisolone, can be the drug of choice………

I later saw a neurologist, who confirmed to me that in some cases dexmethasone can have these terrible side effects, and there’s exactly nothing you can do about it……….. so please be careful with it…… I wouldn’t wish such weeks on anyone…..

I experienced a sudden hearing loss. After I stopped taking the medication, I felt dizzy and developed a rash on my face and chest.

Five years ago, a nurse, despite her reservations, administered a Dexamethasone injection to me. Initially, I experienced easy bruising, which escalated to ‘roid rage’, depression, and eventually psychosis. My bones weakened, and I lost friends and family who couldn’t cope with my condition. Even after five years, I see no signs of complete recovery. Every morning, I wake up shaking, and it takes hours for my cortisol to kick in. The adrenal shutdown feels like enduring torture in a hellish chamber. I still struggle with clear thinking and making sense of things.
