I am convinced of 5-HTP, in my case I was able to alleviate several symptoms of my depression and my life is now a lot easier. It is important to know that the medication only starts to take effect after a few weeks, which I can confirm from experience. At the beginning I struggled a lot with nausea, but this subsided over time. I didn’t want to stop taking the dietary supplement too soon. For me it was worth continuing. I can fall asleep better and no longer sleep unnaturally long or short as was often the case for me in the past. I can deal with stressful situations much better and no longer have to cry or calm myself down so often. Furthermore, I have NOT had any migraines since I started taking the medication, which I used to have about once a week. A side effect of the nausea was that I started drinking only one coffee in the morning and eating one meal in the evening (possibly with small snacks in between), something like intermediate fasting. As a result, I have lost 6 kg in the 3 months that I have been taking the medication, which is not bad so far, but if it continues like this I will have to think about how I can reconcile the nausea while eating with taking the medication.
I’m dealing with depression and I happened to find 5 HTP, which was advertised as a mood enhancer. I tried it and observed a slight improvement, but it wasn’t significant. When the effects subsided, my depression intensified more than before. I was barely able to function for the next three days. I wouldn’t suggest it based on my experience. I’ve had a more positive outcome with St. John’s Wort.
